Key Challenges
The existing Squarespace site had become a limitation. Rigid templates restricted how content could be presented, resulting in cramped layouts that made it difficult to feature stories and imagery effectively. The navigation was disorganized and did not reflect the scope of their programs across three countries, which created confusion for visitors trying to explore or get involved. Managing updates was also cumbersome, with little flexibility to grow as the organization expanded. In addition, the site lacked proper localization, even though their audience needed access in English, Spanish, and German.
Process & Approach
To address these issues, I partnered with Su Refugio’s marketing team to redesign the website in Webflow, which provided both creative freedom and a more robust CMS. We opened up the layouts to allow photos and text to breathe, using modern scrolling patterns that gave space for storytelling rather than forcing content into cramped sections. I developed CMS collections for photo galleries and mission trips, as well as reusable components to manage featured modules and repeated content, ensuring consistency across the site while making updates simple. A major focus of the build was implementing Webflow’s localization features, enabling the entire site to be managed in three languages — English, Spanish, and German — directly by their team. Alongside these changes, I restructured the navigation with an advanced menu system that brought programs, trips, and giving opportunities to the forefront, while also optimizing the design for mobile to ensure a seamless experience across devices.
Outcome
The result was a site that gave Su Refugio the flexibility and clarity they had been missing. Their team could now update content quickly and easily, from adding new mission trip information to uploading photo albums, without being constrained by design limitations. Content was reorganized to highlight the programs in Paraguay, Argentina, and Peru, while also streamlining pathways for giving and church involvement. The new design allowed stories, visuals, and media to take center stage, creating a more engaging and modern presentation of their mission. Most importantly, the introduction of full localization meant that their multilingual audience could now engage with the site in English, Spanish, or German with consistency and ease. The client was thrilled with the transformation, noting how much more current and accessible the site felt, and how significantly easier it was to manage.
